Buzz Books 2017: Young Adult

Hello fellow book lovers! I recently downloaded the YA Buzz Books list from NetGalley for spring and summer. Some of the books I’ve already seen bouncing around on the blogosphere but many I haven’t heard of yet. As I was flipping through the list I was getting so excited for all the wonderful new books coming in 2017 (although some are already published) that I wanted to share some of my favorites with all of you! Let me know if you’ve heard or already read some of these books 🙂

Books I Read (Part 3)

Back to my long list of books read over my blogging hiatus. I will work on reviewing all of these books, but I’m realizing that it will be quite the project :). Let me know if you see a book you would like reviewed first!

The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma  ★★★★

This was a beautifully written, haunting book. Told through alternating points of view from Amber and Violet, The Walls Around Us paints a story of friendship and betrayal mixed in with some seriously disturbing scenes. While I was slightly let down by the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed Suma’s writing and am looking forward to picking up another one of her books.

Replica by Lauren Oliver ★★★

Replica seemed like such a unique concept with the two stories in one and clones on a mysterious island. Unfortunately, the two different stories just seemed like a book with different points of view- I alternated chapters and I think it would have been quite tedious to read on story then the other. Both of the characters fell flat for me and the climax was anticlimactic. I gave it three stars because I enjoyed the writing and the concept was unique.

Books I Read (Part 2)

Hello and welcome back to my summary of books read over the past few months! If you’ve followed my blog at all, you probably noticed I took quite a long blogging hiatus, but I certainly didn’t stop reading. I don’t think I could stop reading if I tried.  I can’t wait to talk about every single one of these books with all of you 🙂

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover ★★★★

While the subject matter is more of a sensitive one (cheating), I thought Colleen Hoover produced a very thoughtful, emotional story. I personally loved Sidney and Ridge as characters. CoHo always incorporates a unique artsy aspect to her stories and this time it was music. It was even more intriguing learning that Ridge is deaf! I definitely recommend this book, along with all of CoHo’s other books 🙂

Slammed by Colleen Hoover ★★★

Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite contemporary authors and I flew through this book, just like the others. However, it was probably my least favorite of them all. It was a little too insta-lovey for me. It was well-written, steamy, addictive and creative (as always), but I won’t be picking up the sequels anytime soon.

I’m Back! Books I Read and Review Requests (Part 1)

I know, I know. I never thought I would stop blogging completely but I will admit life got in the way for a few months. I definitely didn’t stop reading! If you are friends with me on Goodreads I’m sure you saw I still read quite a bit :). Everything is going well, but I’ve been so busy! Between the holidays, starting a new job and applying to grad school I put blogging on the back burner. I think, looking back, I came on a little too strong with my blogging in the beginning. I was posting almost every day and I quickly realized that was not sustainable with my busy schedule. Moving forward, I plan on posting more regularly even if that means I don’t post as frequently. Because honestly, I’ve missed my book blog community. I’ve been reading and reading and I haven’t had anybody to share my bookish enthusiasm with. And I seriously need to share my excitement for that new ACOWAR cover, RIGHT?!

Anyway, I read a lot of books over the past two months. Some great, some….not so great. And I need to discuss them! I plan on writing reviews for all of these books, but please tell me in the comments which books you want to see reviewed first.

Series Read-Along Update

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give a quick update for my Series Read-Along Challenge I am participating in for November and December. I’m hoping to make a serious dent in some of the series I’ve started over the past year! Here is my blurb from the original post in case you missed it:

The Series Read-Along Challenge is hosted by YA Buddy Reader’s Corner on Goodreads. Their group is a great way to connect with other bloggers and readers and they have regular reading challenges like this one. So how does this challenge work?

“This is a two month challenge running from the 1st of November to the 31st of December 2016.

The aim of this challenge is to read as many series/sequels as you can, before the new year!

The way this will work is that you will receive points based on what number book in a series you are reading, and because we love to motivate each other, a buddy read will be worth double points. Yes Double!”

Series Read-Along Challenge for November&December

I decided to participate in a reading challenge for the remainder of 2016, and since I have so many unfinished series I am going to hopefully make a dent in them before the end of 2016! The Series Read-Along Challenge is hosted by YA Buddy Reader’s Corner on Goodreads. Their group is a great way to connect with other bloggers and readers and they have regular reading challenges like this one. So how does this challenge work?

I’ve already read a few books in November that qualify:

The Young Elites (#1 of 3) by Marie Lu +1

This Savage Song (#1 of 2) by Victoria Schwab +1

I have quite a few series I would like to continue reading! While this list is probably overly optimistic, I want to be flexible so I can read whatever I am in the mood for. Below is a list of books in a series I have either started already or want to start before the end of the year (and their point values for the challenge):

City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments#2) by Cassandra Clare +2

Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown +2

The Rose Society by Marie Lu (Young Elites #2) +2

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (#1) +1

Days of Blood and Starlight (Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor +2

Magonia (#1) by Maria Dahvana Headley +1

What do you think of this list? Any suggestions for which book I should dive into next? This challenge also highly encourages a buddy read! If you are interested in buddy reading any of these books with me, let me know! I would be happy to read any of these next 🙂

I’m planning of posting an update post every 2 weeks so you can see where I am in the challenge. I’ve been hesitant to start a reading challenge because I didn’t want to feel forced into reading..but these are all series that are very high on my TBR.

For now, my total is: 2

What are your experiences with reading challenges? Let me know in the comments!

What I read over the past few weeks..

Hi everyone! I’m sorry for disappearing for a few weeks. I think I needed a break from blogging, but I was also extremely busy with work and life. I felt pressure to finish books I wasn’t very enthused about and I honestly just didn’t feel like writing about it. I am happy to report that I continued reading and read quite a few books! I plan to continue reading and reviewing books, but I think its time I start playing around with the content and appearance of my blog. I’m not entirely sure what I want to do yet, but I know I want to incorporate more reading challenges and discussion posts in addition to my reviews. What do you all think? What kind of bookish posts are your favorite and which ones do you think make your blog unique?

Blogging Hiatus

The title says it all, but I have decided to take a bit of a break from blogging. I’ve been really struggling to get posts up the past few weeks because I have been so busy with work and life and blogging started to feel like a chore. Even worse, reading felt like a chore and that made me so sad. I started blogging to talk about my love for books and lately I have felt forced to read books that I wasn’t in the mood for and I almost felt like some were homework assignments. I’ve decided to take a step back for a few weeks until things calm down in my life. I will absolutely still be reading! I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m still here and I do plan on coming back, but I need a bit of a break for a while. I have a few reviews scheduled to post over the next few weeks but I will not be writing any new content. I plan to relax and enjoy my books so I can come back to blogging with a fresh outlook. Happy reading and blogging everyone!

September Wrap Up and October TBR

Books I read and my reviews:

This is my first wrap up and TBR post so I am very excited to share it with all of you! While I didn’t get to every book I wanted to read this month, I was very happy with everything I did manage to read. I read 8 books! I was generally pleased with all of them, except for a NetGalley read that seriously took me 6 weeks to get through. I really didn’t want to DNF…but I was very close.

September was also a great month for anticipated releases and I ended up being very satisfied with the sequels I read.  I also read another book on my “5 books I want to finish before the end of the year” list (All the Ugly and Wonderful Things) so I only have three more to go now :). Here are the books I read, all of the titles are linked to my reviews except for The Catalyst:
