WWW Wednesday #22

Hello everyone! It’s time for another WWW Wednesday 🙂

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam@ Taking on a World of Words.

To participate, all you have to do is answer the following questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I will admit I’ve had a slow few weeks because I have been writing all of my supplemental essays for my grad school applications. While I would much rather write about books, after I spend hours editing my essays the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer and write. Or stare at a screen and read. The good news is, I am turning in my applications on June 1st so I hope I will get a little break after that! Now for what I have been reading…

For Mia Hieskety, surviving high school meant focusing on exams and avoiding stupid parties. After breaking up with the only boyfriend she ever had, dating was off the agenda. That is, until Thanatos came along.

Inexplicably drawn to Thanatos, she’s determined to find out who he is and why he insists on wearing gloves to school. Something is off about him. And it’s as if she can feel him when he’s near.

Without warning, she’s thrust into a sinister world and discovers a truth that she never expected. When a supernatural connection puts Mia’s life at risk, she doesn’t know who to trust—especially Thanatos. But what if she’s in love with him?

Bold, irresistible, and beautifully written, Scythe of Darkness explores a star-crossed destiny in a whole new way. Don’t miss this hot YA urban fantasy!

Scythe of Darkness by Dawn Husted [ARC copy, publish date: June 13th, 2017]

The author was kind enough to provide a copy of this book for me to review. I am actually really enjoying it so far. It started a bit abruptly, but I am intrigued by the premise and love authors who personify death in their characters. The writing flows nicely and so far it is a great read.

What did you recently finish reading?

Vicious by V.E. Schwab 4★

I’ve read Schwab’s Shades of Magic series and it was brilliant. Vicious is just another testament to how creative and versatile she really is. Both Victor and Eli were dark, intriguing characters and I loved the modern, superhero twist. If you are looking for something unique I highly recommend this book.

Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith by Shaun Hume 3★

This book was pretty good! Although it was slow to start, when it did pick up I really enjoyed it. The author built a complex world and has a lot of material to work with in future books. I adored the friendship between Ewan, Enid and Mathilde and look forward to seeing them in future books.

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire 4★

Okay, this book was bizarre and honestly a lot darker and more violent than I was expecting. Ever wonder what happens to the children when they come back from their magical worlds? What happened to the children who came back from Narnia? Wonderland? That’s what this book is about. Not the adventure, but what happens when they come back. I would recommend this book purely for the concept, it is so brilliantly unique. It is also great if you are looking for a diverse read- the main character Nancy is asexual and another main character, Kade, is transgender. I personally have never read an asexual rep or a transgender rep in a fantasy book so this was a welcome surprise!
