Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.
And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip-smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love…or be killed himself.

As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear—the Crown’s Game is not one to lose

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

Hooray! I finally snagged this while it was on sale. I decided to put Fangirl down for now, I’ve just been on such a fantasy kick that I didn’t want to stop. I know it probably won’t compare to The Night Circus, but I couldn’t help but think of that book when I saw the dueling magicians in the synopsis. Have any of you read this book?

What did you recently finish reading?

I had a wonderful fantasy series week! May is a great month for book releases and I can’t wait to get these reviews out to all of you.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (ACOTAR#3) 5★

Honestly, I was rolling my eyes at parts of this book- the dramatics, the sex scenes, the excessive use of ellipses (seriously, there are SO many)- but you know what? I loved it. I devoured this book and enjoyed every second of it. I don’t know what it is about her books that make them so enjoyable.

Avenged Amy Tintera (Ruined#2) 4★

This was SUCH a good sequel! I loved it! Em & Cas are quickly becoming one of my favorite fantasy couples. I also adored Cas, what a cutie! In terms of the plot, I love how Tintera was able to develop the characters but still make them true to their loyalties in their kingdom. Also, I can’t wait to see what happens to Olivia- she creeps me out!

Glass Faerie by Rachel Morgan (Creepy Hollow #7) 3.5★

This is Rachel Morgan’s third trilogy in her Creepy Hollow world. I enjoyed it, but not quite as much as the others. She is still fantastic at developing an interesting plot so I will definitely pick up the next book. These books are so much fun, I highly encourage you to pick up the first book in this series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Ewan Pendle was weird. Really weird. At least, that’s what everyone told him. Then again, being able to see monsters that no one else could wasn’t exactly normal.

Thinking he has been moved off to live with his eleventh foster family, Ewan is instead told he is a Lenitnes, one of an ancient race of peoples who can alone see the real Creatures that inhabit the earth. He is taken in by Enola, the mysterious sword carrying Grand Master of Firedrake Lyceum, a labyrinth of halls and rooms in the middle of London where other children, just like him, go to learn the ways of the Creatures.

Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith by Shaun Hume

The author was kind enough to send me a copy of his book to review so I will start on this next! Have any of you read this book?

  1. I really loved The Crown’s Game. I hope you like it! I need to get a copy of A Court of Wings and Ruin. Not really in any rush to get it though, because I wasn’t that big a fan of Mist and Fury and still kind of makes me angry when I think about it. I still want to see how the series ends though.
