• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Its been a while since I’ve participated in a Teaser Tuesday! Today I’m excited to share a teaser from a new NetGalley read.

A few days ago I got approved for and ARC of A Darkly Beating Heart by Lindsay Smith, which I requested months ago. It is released on October 25th so I got to reading as soon as possible! I’m also currently reading Crooked Kingdom right now, but seeing as that is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, I figured more people would want to see a teaser from A Darkly Beating Heart:).

Here is my teaser:

“I have mastered the path of hatred, and I know now where it ends.

It ends with my revenge.” Ebook 1%

From the beginning of the book I can tell Reiko is going to be a dark character, and she is definitely dark. It seems like she has been through a lot of emotional trauma recently, although as readers we are only given brief glimpses into her past. We start the story with her in Japan, already plotting her revenge and full of anger. I am excited to see where this story goes, and I know there is also  time-traveling aspect to it.  Here is the synopsis if you are interested. The cover is linked to the Goodreads page.

27414389

A time-travel story that alternates between modern day and 19th century Japan as one girl confronts the darkness lurking in her soul.

No one knows what to do with Reiko. She is full of hatred. All she can think about is how to best hurt herself and the people closest to her. After a failed suicide attempt, Reiko’s parents send her from their Seattle home to spend the summer with family in Japan to learn to control her emotions. But while visiting Kuramagi, a historic village preserved to reflect the nineteenth-century Edo period, Reiko finds herself slipping back in time into the life of Miyu, a young woman even more bent on revenge than Reiko herself. Reiko loves being Miyu, until she discovers the secret of Kuramagi village, and must face down Miyu’s demons as well as her own.

Is this book on your TBR? Does it look interesting to you? Tell me in the comments!

      1. Yes! Six of Crows is different from most books I’ve read and its definitely worth trying out. You should do a reading challenge with us, we’ll read any book you suggest if you read and review Six of Crows (well I don’t know about Jill, I think she’s booked until January in terms of reading haha :D)

      2. Well, it’s very doubtful that I’ll get around to reading Six of Crow’s soon as I like fantasy and seem to suffer from most books are upwards of 700 pages in length! 😀

But……you did write you’ve seen mine and Jills conversations so……you know what we’re like and any book recommendation is possible! 😂

      3. Ha! Good thing I didn’t promise to read any book or you’d have me reading the skull or feather books. 😂 I’m flying through Six of Crows. I’ll probably be done by morning. It’s really not a YA fantasy, more on par with Nevernight minus the weird sex parts. There’s nothing like that in this book. It reminds me of Ocean’s Eleven with magic and in a fantasy world. The people are savages. I think you’d like it. 😜

      4. Yeah, except if it were me, you’d make me read it, where Alex can opt out of it. I guess we’ll see what book you’d choose because Six of Crows is too good of a book for you to torture Alex with some weird adult fantasy book no one wants to read. 😂

      5. Sigh, weird adult fantasy books, tuts and sighs whilst shaking head, I do read other stuff to Jillian! 😠 And, torture, sigh, you’re giving me a bad rep Jill, I’m a English gentleman and don’t torture anyone I just get in with the wrong crowd at times and make the occasional inappropriate comment! 😂
