Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

For those of you who are not familiar, Illuminae is quite the unique book. Told through a compilation of military reports, instant messages, emails, surveillance footage reports and pictures, Illuminae tells the story of Kadie and Ezra after their planet has been invaded. After escaping on spaceships, we read these documents to piece together an exciting story filled with space travel, government corruption and betrayals. It took me a while to understand what was happening, but I am thoroughly enjoying it now!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I loved this story!  Karou is an intriguing heroine and Taylor builds a unique and beautiful world in Prague.  The plot and mystery is wonderful, although it did slow down towards the middle of the book. Nevertheless, I absolutely recommend this book if you are interested! My full review will be up tomorrow.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne

I adored this story and it gave me some major Harry Potter nostalgia. While I can’t compare it to the magic of the first seven books, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. In my opinion, it should really be considered a standalone story rather than the “eighth” Harry Potter book. It is its own unique story, however it does reference many scenes from the original series. It was a beautiful tribute to all of our beloved characters. I hope I get to see it live one day! My full review for this will be up towards the end of the month.

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess (ARC)

I know I didn’t include this book on my last WWW but I recently got this ARC approved on NetGalley, and with the release date coming up I decided to read it. This book was fantastic! Cluess certainly knows how to tell a magical story. Henrietta is an intelligent, likable heroine who discovers that she is a sorcerer. Set in Victorian London, this book is a great mix of well-developed characters, magical world-building and unexpected plot twists. I definitely recommend this one! My review will be up in about one month, closer to the release date.

Legend by Marie Lu

I’ve heard good things about Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy, so I am excited to dive into this soon. I don’t know much about the plot yet, but I am sure I will enjoy!

The Delphi Effect by Rysa Walker (ARC)

I am a fan of Walker’s CHRONOS series so when I saw this on NetGalley I requested it right away. I love stories about ghosts and mediators so I am excited to start this one.

GRE Prep Book

This is kind of a joke…but I actually do have to start studying for the GRE soon *cry* so I can apply to grad school. I hope my reading doesn’t slow down too much but I do have to dedicate a good chunk of time to studying. Sad!

  1. I can’t wait to see your review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I bought it a while ago and still need to read it. Harry Potter is on my list for this month as well. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m hooked on Kristoff now that I’ve read Nevernight. I should stop by Barnes and Noble later to get a copy so I can see all the cool images in the print version.

      1. I’ll look out for your review. 🙂 Yeah, I know what you mean. I’ve been trying to space out my ARC reviews as well. I focused on those that were releasing soon or released in the past few weeks. It’s tough holding onto some of these when you’re dying to talk about them. 🙂

  2. A few of these are on my TBR. I’ve heard so many great things about Illuminae and I want to read it really badly, but I want to wait and see if I can find the hardcover for a little cheaper than I’ve seen it. A Shadow Bright and Burning is one of my most anticipated 2016 releases so I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it. 🙂

    1. I honestly wasn’t too sure about it the first 100-150 pages but I LOVE it now. It is so creative and beautiful. And yes, much creepier than I anticipated! I am just blown away that Kaufman and Kristoff created a story with documents and emails…and it flows so well.

  3. I am glad to hear that you’re enjoying Illuminae. I myself didn’t really enjoy it all that much, sadly. I really need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I really loved Cursed Child!

      1. I didn’t think it was as amazing and awesome as everyone was saying it was. I actually thought it was pretty boring the majority of the time. I also didn’t really care much for Kady’s character. The last 100 pages were probably the best, so I might check out the next book. I really like Ezra and Aidan, so they might be worth continuing with the series and hopefully liking the next better.

  4. I saw The Delphi Effect on there and it looked interesting. I have to get my NetGalley books read: one down, three to go! Hope you like it!
    I saw A Shadow Bright and Burning and I don’t remember why I didn’t request it…hmmm….

      1. Oh, I get a little overwhelmed with a long list. I like a list where I can get one removed, but then add another one. Kind of like an infinite list. Not too long, but something always there.

  5. I loved Illuminae! It is such a clever book, and while the format takes a bit of getting used to, the story flies once you do. I can’t wait for the second book to come out!

Thanks for stopping by my post earlier. 🙂
