WWW Wednesday #2

WWW Wednesday is a meme  hosted by Sam@ Taking on a World of Words.

To participate, all you have to do is answer the following questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I recently ordered quite a few books and they all came in this weekend so I have a lot to look forward to. I usually read on my kindle because it is more convenient and typically cheaper but I miss having a physical copy of books! I realized that a lot books are actually the same price (or even cheaper) on Amazon for the actual book, so I put some in my cart to buy at a later time…..and “accidentally” ordered them all 🙂 So here we go!

I started Daughter of Smoke and Bone over the weekend and actually just finished it last night. I was in one of those obsessive reading states where I sat down after work to read a little, then looked up at the clock and 6 hours had passed and I finished the book. I seriously couldn’t put it down. I was very pleased! I understand now why everyone was telling me about the 50% slump, but overall, I really enjoyed it. I will publish my review sometime next week.

I also started reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Monday (yay!). I like it so far, and I am trying to go in with an open mind. This is a Harry Potter story but it is not solely written by J.K. Rowling and its not really part of the original Harry Potter series. However it is quite special to return to the wizarding world for a while :). I am trying to savor it so I don’t read it all in one sitting!

I finished Six of Crows last week and it was magical. I absolutely loved it. It was such a unique, exciting story with wonderful characters. I will publish my review later this week!

I also read The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett over the weekend. This book is my first NetGalley read so I was excited to start! It was definitely a strange read. I enjoyed it and absolutely adored some parts of it, but this is a book I will have to let sit for a few days before writing a review. It also isn’t released until January 2017 so I will probably wait a few months before publishing the review 🙂

What I’ll Read Next:

I don’t know yet! Here is my book haul that came in over the weekend:

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

After loving Six of Crows, I decided to finish up with the Grisha trilogy. I’ve heard some good things about this second book so we will see if I enjoy it.

Legend by Marie Lu

I’ve seen reviews about her Young Elites series but I’ve never read the Legend trilogy so I thought I would start there!

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I have heard SO many great things about this book and I am leaning towards this one next. I am very happy to have a physical copy of the book!

Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

This series has been on my TBR for a while and I’m always looking for good fantasies. Queens, princesses, magic, romance, adventures? Sounds like a book I might enjoy.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

My friend recently gave this book to me and while it is not a YA book or a fantasy, I still wanted to include it here. This book is a memoir about a neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. As someone who works in the medical field and as an aspiring PA student this has been on my TBR for a while! While I’m sure it will be a heavy read, I’ve heard so many great things about it.

I’m also starting to get approved for more books on NetGalley and I can now see why maintaining the ratio is so difficult. I’m excited, but they are starting to pile up!

  1. Yay! I’m so glad you loved Six of Crows. That is such a good book 🙂 I can’t wait for Crooked Kingdom to come out!

I still can’t decide whether I want to read Cursed Child or not… I wish I lived closer to London so I could have tried to go and see it on stage. It’s getting such good reviews.

I loved Illuminae. The formatting makes it a little hard to get into at first, but once you get used to it the story is really gripping.

    1. I know I can’t wait for Crooked Kingdom now! I reallly wish I could see the play but Im in the US so there’s probably no hope for me unless I make the trip to London one day 🙂
I’ve heard amazing things about Illuminae but I am worried about the format. As much as I appreciate how original it is, I’m worried I won’t be able to get into it. Nevertheless, I am excited to read it! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  2. Six of Crows was indeed magical and i am so excited for the Crooked Kingdom. Glad you liked Daughter of smoke and bone. I’ve been waiting for any new book by Laini Taylor after reading the trilogy. Also, Illuminae, Legend and Siege & Storm are all amazing books. Have a great reading week 😀

  3. What makes you say Cursed Child wasn’t’ written by Rowling? My understanding is that she didn’t write the whole thing herself but was very involved in the process. It’s a completely different format for her, after all. Glad you liked Smoke & Bone. That’s one I’ve wanted to read for a while. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

    1. Sorry that was probably confusing! From my understanding, its her original story and she was very involved in the process but she didn’t write the script itself (although I’m sure she had to approve everything). That’s information from what I’ve read, but definitely correct me if I’m wrong 🙂

      1. That sounds more like what I’ve heard. She crafted the plot but had help adopting it for the stage. That makes sense. It would be hard to go from novel to script or vise versa. Happy reading!

      1. I can’t wait to see what you think. I need another opinion on that one!
I’ve got the other two in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series checked out, so I’m definitely eager to see what happens next!
